Kindergarten I (Pre-Kindergarten) Objectives

  • To assure each child that he/she is a redeemed child of God.
  • To help each child learn more about his Lord and Savior, every day.
  • To help each child show love for others as Christ has loved us.
  • To assist the parents in preparing the child for Kindergarten II.
  • To assist the parents in preparing the child to interact with other children.

RELIGION

  • Learn of God's love for us
  • Learn to love God as He loved us
  • Sing songs in worship and praise
  • Listen to Bible stories

COGNITIVE SKILLS AND LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Recognize first name
  • Print first name
  • Name eight basic colors
  • Identify body parts
  • Match objects: one to one correspondence
  • Say alphabet in sequence
  • Use words to communicate needs
  • Follow one oral direction
  • Participate in class discussion
  • Name shapes (circle, triangle, square and rectangle)
  • Count by rote: 1 to 20
  • Recognize numerals: 1 to 10
  • Copy and complete pattern of two ( - 0 - 0)
  • Construct sets: 1 to 5
  • Recognize some upper case Alphabet Letters
  • Know address
  • Know phone number
  • Know birthday
  • Follow three oral directions

PERCEPTUAL MOTOR SKILLS

  • Hold scissor correctly and cut out half circle
  • Put six piece puzzle together
  • Use and hold crayon correctly

SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL SKILLS AND SELF HELP SKILLS

  • Clean up area after snack

  • Quiet voice
  • Raise hand to talk when specified
  • Walk; don't run
  • Only four at an activity, as play-doh or water table

To help prepare your child, you can:

  • Begin teaching child to print first name - only first letter in capital, as Elizabeth.
  • Teach child bathroom procedures, including washing and drying hands.
  • Help child use pencil, crayon and scissors.
  • Read to your child.
  • Have child dress himself/herself with coat, boots, etc.
